The Yemeni government is calling for help in the world: save us from corona

The Yemeni government launched a distress call for UN and international organizations to support their efforts in dealing with epidemics, confronting the new Corona virus "Covid 19" in the temporary capital of Aden and the rest of the governorates, supporting the health sector and implementing projects for environmental sanitation.

This came during a press conference held by the Yemeni local administration ministers, Abd al-Raqib Fateh, and public health and population Dr. Nasser Ba`oum, in Riyadh, to discuss developments in the humanitarian situation in Yemen, especially in light of the outbreak of the Corona virus.

Minister Fateh said that, before the epidemic, King Salman Relief Center provided support and sent medical and preventive supplies and means to confront the Corona virus, and the Kingdom pledged $ 25 million to confront the pandemic, and the center announced the allocation of $ 3.5 million in urgent support and provision of medical supplies to the health sector in Yemen.

He accused the Yemeni Minister of Local Administration, the Ansar Allah group, "Al-Houthi", of "obscuring the number of Coronavirus infections in the areas under its control," warning that "this blackout could lead everyone to a major and disastrous catastrophe."

He continued: "The World Health Organization should announce its information regarding confirmed cases in the Houthi-controlled areas, because accepting this situation is in line with the state of denial that the Houthis intend to continue their wars, and thus will be involved in this crime."

Fatah called on the international community to "pressure the Houthis to disclose the number of casualties before the epidemic disaster becomes greater than Yemen's ability to face it."

And he considered that "the biggest victim of these measures is the population, and that the Houthis with these measures do not observe any humanitarian considerations against the Yemeni people."

The government official attributed the cause of the spread of epidemics in Aden and a number of governorates to "the floods and torrential ravages that swept through the past days, and the mixing of torrents with polluted water", stressing "the need to focus urgently on the implementation of health sector projects."

He pointed to "the implementation of the Saudi program for the development and reconstruction of Yemen (Aden Ajmal) campaign through environmental sanitation projects, which benefited more than half a million people, and more than 21 thousand cubic meters of trash causing diseases and epidemics were removed."

For his part, Yemeni Minister of Health, Dr. Nasser Ba’oom, set out to the international community “the priorities of urgent support in supporting the health sector in Yemen with the necessary supplies with protection tools for workers to counter the Corona virus, and providing respiratory equipment and financial support for health workers.”

Added to this are PCR devices with an integrated biological unit, their solutions, nasopharyngeal surveyor sampling devices, support to the health sector in field hospitals and specialized health personnel, integrated intensive care beds, support to the most vulnerable and continued provision of food baskets.

Baoum pointed out that the government has allocated nearly 6 billion Yemeni riyals (about 24 million US dollars) since March as an additional budget to support the health sector, and the opening and equipping of 27 quarantine centers in all liberated governorates.

He added that thermal cameras were installed in the air and land outlets, providing quick examination tools, and exempting the imported medical supplies from tax and customs fees.

He stressed that "contacts are being made with various donors to provide swift and urgent support to Yemen to tackle the epidemic."
