Global health: Yemen faces unprecedented risks with the spread of Corona
The World Health Organization said that Yemen faces unprecedented risks with the emergence of the emerging Corona virus.
The organization added in a statement published late on Monday on its website, that the threat posed by Covid-19 to Yemen is different of its kind, and the measures to mitigate the effects of the epidemic are more complicated than others in other countries, especially as the health system in Yemen is still suffering from Extreme exhaustion with limited resources.
She noted that 24 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, while increasing rates of malnutrition affecting the immune systems against infectious diseases.
She explained that the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic interferes with other infectious diseases such as cholera and diphtheria which still require an emergency response in Yemen, while only half of the hospitals are operating at full capacity.
According to global health, training health workers in dealing with epidemics can alleviate the health crisis as a result of the deterioration of the health sector and the scarcity of resources, and the inability to cope with the pandemic if it spread widely.
As of Tuesday evening, Yemen had recorded 144 cases, including 23 deaths (including 4 injuries, including deaths in the Houthi-controlled areas).
